McNally Nabs a Sexy Swarek!

So the Canadian show, Rookie Blue, may be all about the young rookie cops, fresh faced and and just shedding their teenesque awkwardness, but it is not the Rookies that are causing a stir! The commanding officers and detectives are definately packing more heat! 42 year old actor Ben Bass, plays “Sam Swarek” and, ehim, also the ladies! The chemistry between the tallented but affected Andy McNally (Reaper’s Missy Peregrym) and Swarek is going to make it difficult for writers to keep them apart, but doing so makes for excellent viewing.

Raised by an alcoholic ex-cop father, she is resultantly more mature and serious than the other rookies.  Swarek has a very paternal nature, which makes him even more apealing. He has the older charming, wise but still a little bad and sexy charater pegged down to a tee. He may be 42, but I would definately go all Katie Holmes if I got the shot! McNally has the perfect on paper boyfriend: Luke Callaghan (Eric Johnson), but in primetime television, chemistry speaks louder than sense, besides, Swarek makes good sense!

With this new show, the Canadians have definately doen well, the show is one of the highest rated, ensuring a second season after just a few episodes. The characters initially seem a little two dimensional, with glossy actors thrown in draw in the younger audience, however, by the end of the first episode, one can be sure there is a unique story driving every rookie to want to be a better cop, even the arrogant and bitchy.

With a relatively unknown cast, this show is bound to launch the careers of a few stars before the year is out. It’s a likeable show, because young viewers are drawn to the dramatic plot lines and slightly more glamourous touch to the police force, whilst older viewers will be drawn to the nostalgia of the good old cop shows they grew up with. There is romance, mystery, action and a very slight hint of comedy. HIGHLY recommended!

It may be the “Greys Anatomy” of Cops, but if Andy McNally is the main rookie, Swarek is McSteamy, and McDreamy is overated!

The characters are generally likeable, once the characters start to unfold. Even the arrogant Dov Epstein (Everwood’s Gregory Smith) and bitchy Gail Peck (Charlotte Sullivan). They do add a very real aspect to the series, as lets face it, not every cop is going to be completely lovable at first sight! And there is always going to be a single mom, trying to make her mark in the force.
